When you, a loved one or a child have a fever you want something that will relieve the fever quickly and effectively. There are a wide range of over-the-counter medications available and it can be difficult to work out what the best medicine for fever is.
There are basically two types of fever remedies that you can buy without a prescription: acetaminophen and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). NDSAIDs include medications that contain aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen. Of these, there is no particular drug that is more or less effective in reducing fever than the others. You should carefully read the information that comes with each and check for side-effects that you (or the person that requires them) may be prone to. Acetaminophen, for example, can help reduce fever and offers pain relief but it is not fully understood how the drug operates and whether it is effective for everyone.
