Leadership coaching is a process where a potential leader gets tailored help from a coach to help them achieve their goals in becoming a more effective leader. Coaching is used when a leader has all the necessary skills, such as technical background, knowledge and support, to achieve a desired outcome but cannot still falls short of their goals in a work environment.
Leadership coaching is provided by a person experienced in leadership dynamics and is tailored specifically to the individual that requires help. The coach is like an ally or mentor and believes that the leader has unlimited potential that can be unlocked through encouragement and the removal of obstacles that are standing in the leader’s way. This is achieved by careful listening and analysis of the potential leader’s situation and is characterized by an objective, non-prescriptive approach where the coach helps the leader to overcome the emotional or mental hurdles that are holding them back from more effective leadership.
