You may have heard of healthy holistic living, without being sure exactly what it is. The holistic approach means using natural remedies and treatments, whenever it’s applicable and safe to do so, although it isn’t just about maintaining good health. It’s also about looking after the body and soul and having a well balanced and meaningful life, and practitioners focus on a healthy diet, getting enough sleep, compassionate self care and fulfilling social interactions. Holistic medicine often uses cures that have been used for centuries in Eastern medicine and healing. It may all sound rather hippyish and New Age, but the term holistic living was actually coined around 350 BC by the Greek philosopher Aristotle. Of course, it’s possible to practice a holistic lifestyle by yourself, although many people find it more meaningful interacting with others, and retreats are offered all over the world.
