USB displays refer to computer monitors that can be plugged into a computer using a USB port. These are most often portable displays that are used with a laptop when an additional screen is required – such as when making a presentation to a small group of people, an additional screen is needed to open two programs full-screen at once or for a portable gaming system.
The wide availability of USB Type C connectivity has made this possible. This standard allows the transfer of data, power and video information over a single USB cable and is the main driver of the proliferation of portable displays.
While many smaller desktop displays can be regarded as portable, true portable displays are those that are specifically designed as such. These can range in size from 3.5 inches to 22 inches and come in various different types including personal, business and general purpose devices that are used by artists and gamers.
