What Is A Cyber Security Analyst?

A cyber security analyst is responsible for protecting IT networks and systems from attack by malicious actors. They often have experience working with these systems and come from an administrator background. Along with familiarity of the IT infrastructure they must also be up-to-date with the latest security trends and attack vectors.

They are involved in risk management and produce contingency plans that go into effect when a security breach has been identified as well as creating security policies for an organization. As part of their daily role they review suspicious activity that is occurring in a system, take action to stop breaches occurring, report identified security breaches and minimize damage when breaches occur. Often security software is used to help with this process. They are also tasked with educating employees and management on best security practices and implementing security policies and procedures throughout the organization.
