It’s important to compare travel insurance before setting off, and it’s easy to do that by researching online. Firstly, you may not even need to take out extra insurance, as your existing health insurance or credit card may offer some coverage. However, if you’re traveling overseas and taking a lengthy trip or going somewhere remote, insurance may be a good idea. When comparing insurance packages, look at what you feel you need and what is covered. Often included in a policy are compensation for canceled flights and lost baggage, and the airline, cruise ship or tour operator going out of business. And of course, most policies also offer coverage for medical expenses; some include the high cost of having to return home in an emergency evacuation situation, or of having a body shipped home. Your age and overall health should determine what you need in your policy.
